SJA Privacy Policy

St. John Ambulance “SJA” recognizes your right to privacy. Our Privacy Policy outlines personal information we may collect, how personal information is used, disclosure of personal information, safeguards for personal information, and contact information. Please read our Policy carefully so that you understand our commitment to your privacy.

St. John Ambulance may decide to change it’s policy from time to time. When we do, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of the personal information we collect and how we use it.

Collection of Personal Information and Usage
Submissions for Information, Products, Services and/or Pledges
Personal information is collected when you provide submissions or request information about our services through our online forms. All personal information is collected from website visitors who knowingly and voluntarily provide their personal information. Examples of personal information collected on the website include first name, last name, email address, mailing address, and contact numbers.

The information is collected so that we may:

  • Provide and assist you with information about our volunteer and community service programs
  • Provide and assist you with information about our first aid training and service programs
  • Continually enhance our understanding of your experience with St. John Ambulance
  • Share and meet your expectations in our services
  • Respond directly to your queries
  • Build awareness of our programs and services
  • Conduct and facilitate our events and fundraising appeals
  • Manage our relationship with our clients and our donors

Consent
By submitting comments or requests, you agree and understand that the personal information you provide will be shared with those members in St. John Ambulance who have the authority to respond and/or act on the submission and/or request.

Should you decide to voluntarily tell us about your experience, share your stories, your ideas, your suggestions, your questions, correspondence, comments, creative ideas or graphic images, these submission become the property of St. John Ambulance, and St. John Ambulance shall be free to use the submission on an unrestricted basis for any purpose whatsoever. All submissions you provide must comply with copyright and international law. Should St. John Ambulance select your submission to be shared for the purpose of building awareness of the importance of our programs and services, you consent to sharing your first name and province, together with the submission. Should any other information be required from you, an authorized St. John Ambulance member will contact you directly. As a courtesy, SJA will advise you by email that your submission has been selected for use by St. John Ambulance.

It is not necessary to submit any personal information. You may contact us directly at any time by phone or by mail. .

Tracking Website Visits
The IP (Internet Protocol) addresses of computers (servers) become part of our statistical analysis on the use of our website using web analytic tools so we may better design services and improve access to them. However, the SJA cannot gain personally identifiable information on individual users and associate them with IP addresses.

Cookies
A cookie is used when you select “Remember my selection / Retenir mon choix” in order to bring you to your site selection of choice the next time you visit www.sja.ca. Cookies are only used to guide you back to your site selection.

Ensuring our Children’s Privacy
Protecting the privacy of our youth is important. Any youth requesting information about the St. John Ambulance Youth Program for youth 13 years of age and under requires the consent of the youth’s parent. Parental consent is received with the submission of a parent’s email address. St. John Ambulance will be in direct contact with the parent to re-confirm consent. Should parental consent be re-confirmed, the information collected will be retained in order to provide / manage the youth services program. Should parental consent not be re-confirmed, information shall be removed and destroyed.

Our Commitment to Data Security
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, SJA has implemented appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information SJA collects online. For example, wherever sensitive or financial information is requested, we use 128-bit encryption. Our servers are maintained in a secure location with access restricted to authorized St. John Ambulance personnel only.

Retention
The information you provide through these services is maintained only for the period of time it requires us to provide these services. St. John Ambulance shall retain personal information provided only as a matter of course for business record retention such as commercial transactions, donor management and program and/or service management.

Disclosure of Personal Information
St. John Ambulance is committed to your privacy. St. John Ambulance does not rent, sell or trade mailing lists. Disclosure of Information you provide will only be released if required to do so in order to comply with a legal request such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute or court order.

Sharing Personal Information
St. John Ambulance will not use or disclose personal information except for the purpose for which it was collected unless you have consented or as required by law.
At your request, you may access your personal information, at any time, by contacting your closest St. John Ambulance office.

You have a choice when it concerns your personal information. To confirm or change any of your preferences or withdraw your consent at anytime, you can contact any St. John Ambulance office in your area. Please be aware that withdrawing your consent may prevent us from providing you with material or information on St. John Ambulance. Requests submitted will be supplied to the privacy officer in your region.
